MEETING PAVILION
LOCATION: NORMANDY
CONTEXT: FIRST YEAR BACHELOR INTERIOR DESIGN
EVALUATION: 16/20
This was the first design assignment of my Interior Design study and focused on analysis and well-founded design decisions. The assignment was to design a meeting pavilion in a space with given dimensions. We were allowed to create this experience using openings and surfaces based on the proportions of the Modulor. The site is located on top of the cliffs on the northern French coast.
The building is partly positioned over the cliffs, parallel to the direction of the cliffs. As a result, it was also located near the tree on the site. The building is positioned to maximise the experience of the site from the inside.
There are two entrances, each facing a nearby pedestrian path. The entrances are created in such a way that they invite passers-by to take a look inside the pavilion. In addition, the focus is on the circulation in the space. Thus, both entrances provide access to an elevation that offers seating possibilities inside and outside. The north-western facade faces the beach and the sea. The south-eastern seating options are oriented towards the extensive green space and the tree near the building. In addition, in the centre of the room an opening has been made in the floor surface to draw greenery in. This also creates an interesting seating area. Above this, there is an opening in the roof that functions as a sundial. The incoming rays of the sun will spin around the opening in the floor throughout the day.
